| Car history: |
| Purchased new by Walter F Leo in Laguna Beach California in 1966. It was his everyday driver for many years. I purchased it in May of 1996 from Walter at his home in Laguna Beach. At the time I was living in Yorba Linda, CA. At that time the car was a pretty good driver with no apparent signs of accidents. Walter had had the car repainted twice, and the second paint job was WORN OUT. The interior was original but rough. The original engine had been rebuilt by a local service station about 6 years before I bought it. After I bought it, the car went with me as my employer moved me to Peoria IL, Belfast Northern Ireland, West Lafayette IN and Bloomington IL. That service station rebuild must have been pretty good as it lasted until the summer of 96 and about 30,000 miles. Fortunately we tore down the engine just before the crankshaft bearings were about to spin! I started the engine rebuild with the plan for only a few minor updates in addition to the engine. Of course those intentions were soon overridden and I started a full restoration in my brother backyard shop in the St Louis suburbs. With great help from the NCRS St Louis members I completed the restoration - only 6 years later! I am enjoying driving it and introducing my grandchildren to the joys of old cars! |
