Car history:
Car was originally purchased in Millbrook New York, not sure how long it stayed there, but during the mid 80s it was moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. On 1-23-88 car was STOLEN. 22 months passed by and the car was located in Beaver Creek, OH. Police report states that car was operational, had no damage, odometer read 10,700 miles, car was complete and body had not been removed from frame. However, VIN tag was missing and an attempt to remove stamping on block was made. Numbers are still visible but it is obvious someone tried removing it. Since the car was missing for such a long period, the insurance company paid the owner 25,000.00 for the claim. Once recovered and returned to Florida it was sold by the insurance company to an Architect who resided in Daytona, Beach. I attempted to contact him as my brother lives in Daytona. Unfortunately he had just passed away about a year and a half prior to my inquiry. Car was then sold to a Guy in Orlando, who did not do much with the car. In fact when I asked about his history with the car he was rather vague and brief, although he did mention that he came across the car via his wife, whom did some kind of work with cancer patients. So my assumption is that he most likely got a pretty good deal on the car from the dieing owner (the Daytona Beach Guy). Ironically, possibly due in part to Karma, the guy I purchased it from was liquidating all his assets, home and all in order to buy a condo in a nearby town where his wife was receiving cancer treatment. He needed the money for the move and medical expenses. So was it Karma. I have my opinion but I do not want to offend anyone so I just keep that to myself, present the facts and let others make their own decisions. The one and only issue with the car is the VIN. When the car was recovered and returned to Florida, the State issued a replacement VIN tag, which is fine other than the fact that they made a mistake on one digit. See after all the time that passed all the paperwork all the different legal authorities and their reports, records and documentation someone mistook the letter S for the number 5 as all documents were hand written. Reading through the documents I have I can see how it happened. I suppose if your going to goof up a character in the VIN the S is your best choice as all vins have the S as the 6th character of the VIN. I tried getting it corrected but it was a big pain in the butt especially since I do not live in FL and I did not have the time to go through with all the requirements including transporting the car to capital Tallahassee and having it inspected and then preparing records for a hearing to prove why the 5 should be an S. I figured since any corvette enthusiasts would know the 6th digit is an S for St Louis and I had all the paperwork to back it up. Thanks for reading this. Hope you enjoyed it and any other information would be greatly appreciated.
