Car history:
Posted 03/14/2016
Lot #1372 - Original drivetrain Rally Red on red 427/435hp convertible with 8,000
original documented miles, excellent original interior and soft-top. Original Firestone
Super Sport non-DOT red line tires, original bolt-on wheels and original F41 shock
absorbers. Ordered new by the musician Freddie Haeffner in January 1967 from
Francis Chevrolet in St. Louis, MO, and delivered March 31, 1967. It was used to
promote the band Freddie Haeffner and The American Stars in parades and car
shows until 1987. When Haeffner decided to order his new Corvette he was able,
through special connections, to have two sets of red, white and blue racing stripes
painted before delivery at the factory. As time went on, 50 stars were added to
the hood stripe, the side of the car was lettered American Music Special and the
undercarriage was painted gold. In 1985, Haeffner sold the car to Jim Wilson. In
May 1987, Ken and Gary Naber purchased the car from Wilson and restored the
car to its original condition, excluding the custom racing stripes. Multiple Bloomington
Gold certificates and Bloomington Gold Special Collections, Bloomington Gold Hall
of Fame and five-time NCRS Regional or National Top Flight award recipient, never
scoring under 98.5, Performance Verification on first attempt, awarded the coveted
NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence. Documented by GM Corvette Order Copy (Tank
Sheet), this Rally Red/red 435hp, as originally built, still retains a close-ratio 4-
speed transmission, 3.55 posi-traction, F41 suspension, telescopic steering column,
power brakes, N89 bolt-on wheels, side exhaust, transistor ignition, 7.75x15
Firestone non-DOT red line tires, tinted glass, AM/FM radio and the original white
soft-top. Only three factory red/red 435 convertibles have been confirmed since
production stopped.
