Engine details: |
L75 327-300 engine. All ignition shielding is still installed. The engine was modified in the late '60's (see below). |
Other details: |
Matching numbers car. I foolishly modified the engine when I was the tender age of 19, clueless, and could not appreciate why it should be left unaltered. I removed the original Carter AFB 4-bbl, dual-horn air cleaner, factory intake manifold, and standard exhaust system, then added a '66 factory high-rise alum manifold, Holley 600 CFM carb, factory 340HP air cleaner, and factory side exhausts. This provided noticeably more power, and it has always performed well. I also liked the later model rally style wheels, beauty rings and centers, so, regretfully, the original steel wheels and '64 wheel covers are long gone, too. The original red valve covers were also replaced with the factory aluminum finned covers in 1970. |

Car history: |
I bought the car in December, 1968, from its first owner. I drove it daily until the mid-seventies. It received a complete frame-off restoration back in 1983 at Imported Coach & Custom (Norfolk, VA). Really liking the color on coupes, I decided to paint it '67 Corvette "Marlboro Maroon," rather than the Saddle Tan '64 factory Paint Code (932AA). I also brought the interior back in full Saddle leather, rather than re-use the original (white) factory vinyl upholstery. It has been garaged, covered, and only driven a few hundred miles since that full cosmetic and mechanical restoration. In September, 2009, I once again decided to start driving it occasionally. Since it has been significantly modified over the decades from factory-original condition, I decided it wouldn't hurt to replace the front drum brakes with an SSBC disk brake conversion kit so it would be safe to drive. Good move, as it now stops! For performance and reliability reasons, I have also replaced the distributor's ignition points with a (Lectrics Limited) solid state Hall-effect switch, which is fully concealed under the AC Delco distributor cap! |
