Original Paint, Fully Documented, Factory Silver. Legendary Motorcar is very
proud to offer for sale this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe. The
newly designed 63 Corvette was flashy, muscular and powerful as this futuristic
fiberglass sports car was a symbol of post-WWII America that was craving for
individual expression. The radical exterior styling of this Corvette generation
was very purposeful, with peaked fenders, a long nose, and a short, bobbed tail.
The Quad headlamps were now hidden - the first American car so equipped since
the 1942 DeSoto and the 1936-37 Cords. The hood had two simulated air intakes
within stylish indentations and the Coupe doors were cut into the roof like a
true racing sports car. The Sting Rays interior carried a new interpretation of
the twin-cowl Corvette dash motif used since 1958. A full set of round gauges
included a huge speedometer and tachometer, and the center stack was now
somewhat slimmer containing the clock and a vertically situated radio. The first-
ever production Corvette Coupe had the backbone divided rear window split
which was an extremely unusual styling element for its time period. This Split
Window with the glass flowing down the sides and body sweeping artistically
into the point at the back of the car adorned by the large round deck fuel-filler
flap with the crossed-flags insignia. All 1963 cars had 327cid engines, which
made 250 hp as standard and optional variants made were 300 hp, 340 hp and
360 hp. Featuring iconic one-year-only Split-Window styling, this extremely
original unrestored and highly sought after 1963 Corvette Sting Ray split window
coupe was ordered new during September 1962 by a sales executive with a
penchant for performance. Factory options included the numbers matching 340-
horsepower L76 327 engine, numbers matching four-speed manual transmission,
leather upholstery, Wonderbar AM radio, and whitewall tires. While black leather
upholstery was specified and ordered, supply shortages necessitated a switch
to Saddle instead. General Motors made the decision to build the car with a
saddle leather interior, thus fulfilling half of the owners request. In doing so,
the factory produced a combination many thought never was available or even
existed for that matter. The subject of great anticipation, the original owner
spotted the Corvette still on the car carrier as it arrived earlier than expected
at the selling dealer and promptly took delivery. Driven, enjoyed, and stored
over the next 52 years in the same garage and the home from new, this very
special Corvette was lovingly maintained as original as possible and it retains
the majority of its original Sebring Silver paint and the factory original numbers
matching engine, transmission, and rear-axle assembly. The trim tag has been
certified as original and authentic by Al Grenning and CCAS Affirmations. This
is a small group of the most knowledgeable and respected Corvette judges,
these are the folks who are called upon to determine a cars authenticity at the
highest level Corvette meets. Complete with a detailed letter from the original
owner and a plethora of original documents rarely ever seen with a 1963 Corvette
some of which include, original ordered form, original sales brochure used when
ordering the car, original car invoice, original salesmans business card, original
canceled deposit check, original window sticker, original Corvette owners card,
original sales order copy, original mileage and maintenance folder, plus many
maintenance receipts and records, old newspaper clippings and much more.
Very well equipped, and incredibly original throughout, complete with tremendous
amounts of rarely seen original documentation, this Split-Window Sting Ray from
the inaugural year of C2 production is sure to thrill Corvette aficionados everywhere
it appears. Step inside and take a seat, it is like going back in time.
