Scottsdale 2009
Lot #1233 - More than four decades after its introduction, the second generation
C2 Corvette remains one of the most startling, engrossing and most delightful
automotive designs of all time. The mid-year Corvettes aren't so much beautiful
as they were provocative and it was Harley Earl's successor as GM Design Chief,
Bill Mitchell, along with assistant Larry Shinoda, who was doing most of the
provoking. It was the marriage of the Mitchell/Shinoda body design with the
new Duntov chassis that resulted in the C2 Corvette. 1966 saw the introduction
of the thundering 427cid engines and in main street America, the big block
Corvette was the King of the Road. Brutally fast with nimble handling and good
brakes, it earned the title America's Sports Car. And, if you wanted the fastest
street Corvette, you checked the option for one of the thundering 427cid V8s.
This particular car has received a previous body-off restoration to original
appearance and specs. The original engine is long gone and replaced by a fresh
strong replacement big block monster providing close to 500hp. It is also
complimented with a 4-speed transmission, 3.70 posi-traction rear end, power
steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, side-mount exhaust system, AM/FM radio, knock-
off aluminum wheels with radial tires and much more. This high-quality restoration
also included the paint which was redone in the original Code 984 Sunfire Yellow
with a black '67 Stinger hood that gives it a very sharp and distinguished look.
It has been recently refreshed to the highest standards and is ready to show
and drive anywhere. It goes as well as it shows and will not disappoint the most
demanding Corvette fan.
