Posted 12/28/2017 GRAN SPORT RE-CREATION CUSTOM. Lot #1323 - This 1963 Corvette Coupe is a professionally-built re-creation Resto-mod of the Zora Duntov Grand Sport. Only 5 original factory Grand Sports were built. Titled as a 1963 Corvette with the original GM VIN plate intact. Built on a dimensionally correct 4 inch tube chassis finished to the original Grand Sport engineering specifications, modified only in the areas necessary to adapt the lightweight alloy late model Corvette front and rear suspension and drivetrain. It is equipped with power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors, coilover front independent monoleaf rear suspension, a GM/Lingenfelter alloy LS6 engine with polished aluminum dress, GM 6-speed manual transmission, power windows, power rack & pinion steering, alloy wheels, Ididit steering column, Vintage Air, and a stainless steel fuel tank. This is indeed an original 1963 Corvette Coupe modified to appear as the original Grand Sport in specific detail. It utilizes the complete original bird-cage support structure of the factory-built production vehicle. Changes to the body are significant. Most readily visible are the very distinct Grand Sport Daytona hood and body flairs, but it also features rear quarter air-exit slots and multiple holes in the rear fascia to facilitate air exit, and such minor details as the addition of the brake fluid door on the driver's-side front fender, relocation of the fuel filler for the custom stainless-steel fuel tank situated behind the seats to the passenger- side sail panel immediately behind the door, redesign of the door handles to include a sunken area on each door, and large rear functional brake cooling air intakes located on each side of the rear deck. In addition, there is a small trunk and a Plexiglas rear window with no split which served two purposes for the Grand Sport: it is lighter and it increased rear visibility for the driver. Each of these body features were an integral part of the original Grand Sport Corvette. |
